Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.
For example, a weapon with the upgrade template ending in % will suffer 3damage to attack each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor in order to provide them with a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades also have specific cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment with a slot. The item must be upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Glyphs, the sole upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced with no restrictions are the most popular. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.

Leveling
